Privacy Policy

UrbanMixr.uk is published by Aegean Urban Media Ltd., a private company limited by shares registered in Cyprus (company number HE 486271). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal data when you visit our website, subscribe to our newsletter, submit events or listings, or otherwise interact with us. We are the data controller for your personal data and are committed to protecting your privacy in line with UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly, such as when you subscribe to our newsletter, submit a tip, send a correction, contact our editorial team, submit an event or listing, or enter a competition. This may include your name, email address, phone number and any details you include in your message. We also collect certain information automatically when you use our site, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and your activity on the site – for example which pages you visit and how long you stay. This is done through cookies and similar tracking technologies, as explained in our Cookie Policy.

How we use your data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To send you our newsletter and other editorial updates you have signed up for (with your consent)
  • To respond to your enquiries, tips, complaints or correspondence
  • To process and publish events, listings and venue information that you submit to us
  • To improve our website and editorial content through analytics and user behaviour insights
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights
  • To display personalised advertising and measure the effectiveness of our affiliate links and sponsored content – always in compliance with relevant laws

We never sell your personal data to third parties. Where we use affiliate links (for ticketing, booking or other products), these are clearly disclosed and your data is not shared with the affiliate network unless you actively click the link.

Lawful basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on one or more of the following lawful bases:

  • Consent – for newsletter subscriptions, cookie preferences and certain marketing communications. You can withdraw consent at any time
  • Legitimate interests – for operating our website, improving content, responding to enquiries and ensuring the security of our services. We always balance these against your rights and interests
  • Legal obligation – where we are required to retain or disclose data by law
  • Contract – if you enter into a commercial partnership or advertising agreement with us

Data sharing and third parties

We share your personal data only with trusted service providers who help us run our website and operations, such as email delivery platforms, analytics providers, hosting services and payment processors. These third parties are contractually obliged to keep your data secure and use it only for the purposes we specify. We do not share your data with advertisers or other third parties for their own direct marketing unless we have your explicit consent. Where we feature sponsored content or commercial partnerships, the partner does not receive your personal data through our platform. Contact us if you want more details about our third-party processors.

Event and listings submissions

When you submit an event, listing, venue or other content to UrbanMixr.uk, we will process the personal data you provide (such as your name and contact details) for the purpose of reviewing, editing and publishing that submission. Our full process is set out in our Events & Listings Policy. We retain submission data only as long as reasonably necessary for editorial verification and to respond to any queries about the publication. If you submit content on behalf of a venue or organisation, you confirm that you have the authority to provide that data.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right to access – request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification – correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’) – ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances
  • Right to restrict processing – limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability – receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to object – object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing
  • Rights in relation to automated decision-making and profiling – we do not use such processing for significant decisions

To exercise any of these rights, please email privacy@urbanmixr.uk. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk/. We encourage you to contact us first so we can resolve any concerns.

Data retention

We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes we collected it, or to comply with legal, accounting or reporting requirements. For example, newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe; enquiry and submission data may be kept for up to two years after the last contact unless an ongoing relationship exists. Cookie retention periods are detailed in our Cookie Policy.

International transfers

Our company is registered in Cyprus, but we operate as a UK-focused publication. Your personal data may be processed in the UK and Cyprus, both of which have adequate data protection laws as determined by the European Commission and UK adequacy regulations. Where we use service providers based outside the UK or EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Contact and data protection officer

We do not currently have a formally appointed Data Protection Officer (DPO) as we are not required to do so under UK GDPR. For all privacy-related enquiries, including requests to exercise your rights, please contact our privacy team:
